April Challenge

Hi everyone,
We are living in strange times and, as a Club, we are very conscious of how the current environment is affecting people’s mental health, and putting strain on many families ability at access care services. With this in mind, we want to raise money for two charities, one that is paramount in helping adults with their mental health challenges and one whose aim is to provide a service to enhance the palliative care of patients in the home and the community who are referred to our service, and to support and assist their families and professional carers. These two Local Charities are Wexford Hospice Homecare Services and Wexford Mental Health Association. Now Covid has thrown a curveball and many need help now, more than ever.

With that in mind, we proposing to run three virtual Challenges.

  • Roadies – Malin to Mizen Virtual Cycle – 570km
  • Runners – Wicklow Way – Walk/Jog/Run – 131km
  • MTB – Wicklow Way and Back – 262km

How it works

You enter the Virtual Event of your choice – €10 on IPS. You log your mileage with Frank who will map participants progress. More information on logging your mileage will be available in the next few days.

All participants will be entered in a draw, which will take place at the end of the month.  The Club will match the entry fee and the total will be split between the two chosen Charities.

The Challenges which we think are achievable, will provide some motivation to put on your running shoes or jump on your bike and get outside and be very thankful that we can. This is being run on a honour basis, no need to submit Strava stats etc.

Challenges start on April 1st and finish on April 30th. This is a personal challenge that you are setting for yourself.

It really is the taking part that counts. It’s a phrase echoed by the founder of the Olympics, Baron Pierre de Coubertin, who said

“The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not winning but taking part; the essential thing in life is not conquering but fighting well.”
