Club Duathlon February 2018

Another great turn out for the second duathlon in our training series. There were 34 competitors in very cold but bright conditions.

Racing795 are hosting a Club Open Night to welcome new members to the club on Thursday 1st March 2018 @7pm in Rivers Edge Bar & Grill Bunclody

Programme for the night includes: An introduction to Triathlon, An Introduction to Mountain Biking, and Guest Speaker Gerard Prendergast winner of Deca Ironman UK 2017. Light refreshments will be served.

Thinking of giving a triathlon a go this year – come along to our duathlon training series to see what it is all about.

Racing 795 are running three of these so if you can’t make this one there will be on in February and March – keep an eye on our Club News and Facebook page.

Location: Kildavin Gaa Club(Location in Above maps)
Time: Sign at 9.30am Starts at 10am sharp
Equipment required: Working bike , helmet and a pair of runners. Thats it :D
Suggested donation for non members is €5 to cover teas and facilities etc.

Club Championship 2018

For 2018 Racing795 are introducing a new format to the Club Championship.Club Championship

We’re going to try something slightly different with the aim being inclusion/participation of all members. Every member at the start of 2018 will have a chance of winning the much coveted Martin Mimnagh trophy. If you’re somebody who doesn’t swim or maybe you don’t run no problem there are 15 events in total with the best 8 scoring. Fitness levels are irrelevant.

All scoring will be from club events. So we will hold 15 club events through the year for members, starting in January and finishing up in November.

February 25th Sunday Duathlon 3km/20km/3km

March 25th Sunday Duathlon 3km/20km/3km

April 11th Wednesday Road Bike Race 25km

April TBC Mtb Race

May 9th Wednesday Road Bike Race 25km

May TBC Mtb Race

June 6th Wednesday Road Bike Race 25km

June TBC Mtb Race

June 12th Tuesday River Swim 750m

June 26th Tuesday River Swim 1km

July 10th Tuesday River Swim 1,500m

September 3rd Monday Eve X country Run 6km

October 7th Sunday Trail Run 8km

November 4th or 18th(dependent on marathon numbers) Sunday Hill Run 10km

Hopefully these improvements will see the cup within reach of a lot more members and therefore create some excitement during the year.  Above is the full list for ’18, so you can plan your races around the club events. We’re hoping that members will buy into this and all events will be well attended by members.

We will have a minimum marshal plan (replaced by signage!) with emphasis on participation so make sure to check the routes before! As you will see we have an 8 week break during the summer to allow for holidays

So lets get out and participate together as a club!

What is it?

The idea is for all club members to register with and down load the Strava APP – see our handy guide here

We will set monthly targets for all discipline’s….With the aim of a league table and presentation of prizes at the end of the year….

Monthly targets to be achieved leading to awards at xmas party for those that succeed, i.e. achieve the monthly target each month January through to November 2018.

The targets will be set and recorded on the basis of hours spent training & competing by each participant and can be achieved through on/off road run / cycle, turbo or treadmill and will also incorporate club championship events.Participants should declare on the forum from the outset whether they are registering for ‘triathlon’, ‘cycle only’ or ‘run only’

For the early months of the year, i.e. January / February we consider the following targets appropriate:

For a triathlete:- a minimum of 16hrs per month through a combination of swim, bike, run (this works out at an average of just over 4 hours training per week) achieved through the following:-.
• cycling – 8hrs per month (approx 2hrs per week)
• running – 4hrs per month (approx 1 hr per week)
• swim – 4hrs per month (approx 1 hr per week)

For a cyclist & Mountain Biker only: – minimum of 8hrs per month (average of 2hrs per week)
For a runner only: – minimum of 8hrs per month (average of 2hrs per week)

These figures will increase as the year progresses with longer evenings, events, etc and probably decrease as we approach the off season again.
