An Introduction to Mountain Biking – 18th June 2010

Racing795 is hosting a leisure Mountain Bike spin at 7pm on Friday 18th June along the waymarked walking trails at Kilbrannish, Co Carlow (near Mt Leinster).

Aimed at anyone who is interested in mountain biking, this event will be a leisurely cycle over undulating forest roads, with fabulous views of Mount Leinster and the surrounding countryside. You can decide your own pace but allow about 1-2 hours altogether.

We will have experienced mountain bikers on hand to give advice and support. Refreshments will be provided afterwards – weather permitting.

POINTS TO NOTE :
You will need a mountain bike (wide knobbly tyres) in good working order.
Helmets MUST be worn.
This event is not suitable for children under 12.
We will have drinks on the night but it’s worth bringing a bottle of water as backup.
The meeting point will be the new carpark at the walking trailhead at Kilbrannish – Google Map

A busy weekend of racing just gone, with club members heading for all corners of Ireland.

Aisling and James travelled to  Waterford for the 62km Waterford Adventure Race. Both performed admirably in  tough race with some very steep climbs. Afterwards James declared that he hadn’t up anything as steep since the last time he was up a ladder.

Peter and Martin headed for the Kingdom, to Valentia Island in Kerry, to take part in the Sprint Distance Triathlon. Excellent performances from both – Martin 71st, Peter 171st. Results

Back east newest member John Dempsey (tapering for the Cork Marathon next weekend!) was making his way through the Royal Canal to finish 7th in the SuperSprint Triathlon in Kilcock. Well done John. Kilcock Tri Results [NOTE – At time of writing John was ninth on list but there appears to be an error in the times for positions 2 and 8 so we have promoted John to 7th!]

Finally, Jim, Rudolf and Paddy made the long trek to Magheramorne, Co Antrim for Rd4 of the XCMTB NPS. Great results here again. Rudolf broke back into the top 10 in some style, taking 6th place in Masters. Jim was 11th in Vets despite a puncture and a smashed back wheel, and Paddy came 6th in the U12’s.

Well done to all for flying the 795 flag.

Snow Biking (Hill Walking with Bikes)

Impromptu snow spin today. I hear there was more falling around than MTB’ing but it seems the craic was good. Happy New Year to all our members and friends.
