Leinster XC League Round 1 – Update

Chip Timing

It’s official. Racing795 will be using chip timing in tandem with the Off Road Commission’s timing system for its Leinster League race.  Our hope is that both systems will return consistent results and give us a high degree of confidence in chip timing for Tri795.

The final round of the Winter Time Trial league takes place this Sunday 7th February.  Same time and place as usual – 10.00 am sharp at Spellman Hall, Kildavin. It will be held over the short course, i.e. the same course as we used on 17th January.

Siobhan still holds the lead with 6 points, followed by Joy on 12. Next is Martin on 15, with Barry and Paul Hutton on 17. So all to play for.

All are welcome, members and non-members. If you are coming along for the first time, make sure your bike is in good working order, you have a helmet and that you familiarise yourself with the route as follows.

ROUTE DESCRIPTION: Starting  at Spellman Park, ride into Kildavin and towards Bunclody. There will be a marshalled turnaround point just before the speed limit heading into Bunclody. At this point we will turn back and head all the way to Ballon on the main road, turning around again at the first roundabout (at the Londis/Top garage), and back to Kildavin on the main road.

Naas Wheelworx Duathlon – 24th January 2010

Gorrillas in the Mist. Martin, Paul and PJ at the Naas Duathlon.

The triathlon season kicked off again last Sunday with the now annual Naas wheelworx duathlon in Punchestown. Three hardy brave souls (and supporters) from Racing 795 took part, namely Paul Hutton, Martin Mimnagh and PJ Dunne.

Freezing fog was the order of the day with visibility down to 30 m in places. But with a field of 149 and it been a qualifier for the World duathlon championships it wasnt long hotting up. A mass start was the order of the day. The three 795 ers all set off together, but PJ was heard to say “I’ll start behind you two so at least I wont be passed”.

Paul was quick to get in his stride and open a early lead on Martin and PJ. As the kms went by Martin also pulled away from PJ. Paul finished the first 3.5k in a time of 11.42 , Martin 12.31 and PJ 12.42 . The quickest first run time was 10:01! So into T1 pretty uneventful really. All exited t1 in the same places.

Out on a challenging 20k bike leg with two decent hills to conquer before the turn around to come back. At the 10k mark Martin was closing rapidly on Paul, and eventually caught him with a few ks to go. Bike times: Martin 36.41 Paul 37.47 PJ 38.35 . Quickest bike leg 32.02! .

Into T2 and Martin had the lead.  Martin was first to start the second run closely followed by Paul, PJ had a slightly better T2 after the disaster of T1! Back to the run, Paul had Martin in his sights and caught him half way through and finished this second run in a time of 13.46, Martin 14.18 and PJ 15.01.

A great day was had by all , the season begins!!
