Club Duathlon 2014

The annual Racing795 Duathlon took place on Sunday the 30th of March with a 3km run, 25km bike and 3km run starting and finishing at Spellman Park, Kildavin. Much credit for the success of the day must go to Barry Byrne and his team of helpers for putting on a great event which was really enjoyed by members and guests alike. Fintan Redmond was in great form and took the men’s race ahead of an impressive performance by Joe Lillis with Ross Moorehead hot on the heels in 4th. In the ladies race Dena Hogan was the clear winner despite competing and winning a 4 mile trail race the day before. Fiona Gore took 2nd place with our own Tracy Redmond putting in a fine performance to take third. There was some great battles right through the field with the two lap bike course proving a stiff and interesting test.

The main focus of the day is to give people new to Triathlon an opportunity to try the sport and it was fantastic to see plenty of novices toeing the line with close to 20 competitors new to Triathlon – as they say you don’t have to be great to start but you do have to start to be great!  A note of thanks to Kildavin/Clonegal GAA club for use of their excellent facilities which is greatly appreciated.

It was a bright and breezy start to our traditional Winter Time Trial league last Sunday. Fourteen members and guests of all abilities took part in the 30 km handicap race which started and finished at Spellman Park, Kildavin. Ciara Dunne was the winner on the day, with fastest gross time going to Mick Foley in a new course record.  Thanks to Jim, Dena, Lorraine, Fintan and Yvonne for organising and marshalling.  The handicapper will be hard at work adjusting the handicaps to ensure some close racing next time. Mt Leinster MTB Challenge – Results and thanks.

Thank you to everyone who came and took part in the Racing795 Mount Leinster MTB Challenge. It was an absolute pleasure to welcome you all to Bunclody.

We were blown away by the speed of the S1 racers at the sharp end. They just can’t help it, racing is in their DNA. “Not a race? I don’t understand.”

We were equally blown away by the achievements of some riders at the other end of the field. OK, they might have taken four hours to get around, but in another life they might have spent Sunday in bed or on a barstool.

Most of all, we were delighted with the way everyone got into the spirit of it. Fast or slow, tall or small, at the end of the day we’re all mountain bikers riding great trails in a beautiful country. It’s good to do it together once in a while.

What a glorious morning for a duathlon, and what a turnout! Well done to everyone who took part. Thank you all for coming and we hope you enjoyed it.

Top club honours went to TriCW men and Wexford Tri women,  but it was great to see all four tri clubs had top 3 men or women finishers.
