Impromptu snow spin today. I hear there was more falling around than MTB’ing but it seems the craic was good. Happy New Year to all our members and friends.

TIME TRIAL 28th DECEMBER CANCELLED
We have decided for safety reasons to cancel the Time Trial scheduled for the 28th December. There are some dangerous icy stretches on the route, with no thaw likely in the next couple of days. Also, the car park we use is frozen over and extremely dangerous for walking, let alone cycling. We have not yet decided on an alternative date, so for the moment the next TT will still be on 17th January.

You know it’s cold when the pre-race safety talk includes the word “ice”. But, it’ll take a lot more than a frosty morning to stop the 795 army! We had 18 starters today, cheered on by a plentiful supply of supporters.
Congratulations to Paul Hutton, today’s winner, and first male winner in the series. Well done also to Martin Mimnagh who recorded the fastest gross time by over a minute. Six riders broke the hour barrier today compared to three in Round 2.
The points race is getting interesting too. Martin and Siobhan are both flying so there may be tension in the Mimnagh household as we head into Rounds 4 and 5. Frank Burke is also going well but it’s still all to play for. The fun continues on the 28th, same time, same place.
Thanks on behalf of all the racers to Joy and Siobhán for carrying out today’s timing and marshalling duties.

The 795 juniors had their day out today, hunting for treasure in the woods of Kilbranish. Santa’s instructions were to follow the candlelit trail and pick up treasure on the way. And treasure they found! Candy cane sticks, and at the end the greatest treasure of all – reindeer dust! Spirits were high and there were even a few festive tunes along the way.
The adults found some treasure too – most notably Barry’s mulled wine (secret recipe apparently). The smoke in the shed couldn’t even dampen the spirits. Thanks to Siobhán, Joy and Lorraine for a great afternoon.
