Hi guys, just wondering how long the coarse is I am only getting back into mountain biking after 20 years but I am not fit enough. I was in Kilbranish two weeks ago, nearly had a heart attack going uphill and went flat out back down. I am 43 going on 16 and would love to get more involved in mountain biking. Any help would be great.
Hi Noel. Not gonna lie, this is a tough race course. Not for complete beginners, and you will need some degree of fitness. Total lap length will be somewhere around 4.5km with a fair bit of technical singletrack. Sounds like you would be an S4 rider so you’d be doing 2 laps. Suggest you check out Offroad Cycling site for lots of useful racing info, and definitely recommend doing one of the Biking Blitz races if you can beforehand. Drop us an email if you have any further queries. Cheers, R795
Thanks very much for the info, it is great help. I am going to keep training and stretch those lungs and god willing i will see you soon. All the best Noel.
Hi,
could you please describe the course, any climbing or flat?
what’s the course condition in? do we have a lot of mud or it’s rain proof?
hello, the course is certainly not flat! Fairly typical Irish mtb course, climbs are not steep, singletrack is technical. Lap is 4.5km long. Course is always in good condition, takes the rain well, but expect mud – it’s Ireland, it’s March and it’s a forest…Cheers R795
Hi
I have been mtbkng for fun for a few years now but have never raced.
Im 34 and not in bad shape & I’m around 11 to11.5 st. (I can do Ballyhoura brown loop in about 1hr 15mins.)
What category do you suggest I enter?
Tom
S4 all the way. 2 laps is plenty for your first race and you’ll learn loads.
Will there be a chance to preview the course a week or two before? Any chance of maps or elevation changes?
Thanks,
Mike
For insurance reasons and in compliance with our race permit from Coillte, practice is only permitted the day before the race, 24th March, thanks.
Hi, what time are the under 8’s and under 10’s races on?
The underage races will start from 11. Make sure to register before 10:30.
Hi,
I’m trying to register but there seems to be a problem with the login.

Don’t worry Jacqui, you are registered.
Super race today in ideal conditions. Loving a natural course with not a trace of hardcore. Might be another story in the wet!!! Looking forward to the next race there.
Great stuff Evan, glad you liked it! Sort of tricky in the wet alright! See you next year…R795
