MTB Challenge Info – Directions, Timetable, Sign-On etc

Event location

The best route to Bunclody from Dublin and all points north is the M7/M9. Starting at the Red Cow follow the M7/M9 out of Dublin. When the M7 and M9 diverge be sure to keep left and take the M9 signposted Waterford, Carlow, Kilkenny. Next take Junction 5 off the M9 signposted Carlow South/Rosslare/Enniscorthy. Keep left at the slipway roundabout.

You are now on the N80. Drive for 15-20 mins, passing through the village of Ballon. Driving down the hill into Bunclody take the right turn towards Mt Leinster opposite Supervalu. Event location is 5 km out this road at the first Coillte forest entrance.

Please follow marshals’ instructions and park sensibly so we can fit everyone in.

Sign-on

Sign on will be from 9:30 to 10:30am. If paying on the day please try have exact money (€30, one day licence fee included, no extra charge)

Start time and format

Start time is 11am, please make your way to the start area for 10:45am for the race briefing. It will be a mass start. Faster riders should try to start near the front, more leisurely riders to the rear.

Food Stop and Bottle Drop

Two water and food stops will be provided. The food provided will include bananas, chocolate bars, nuts etc. Anyone wishing to have their own bottles brought to stops should leave them with us at sign-on, clearly marked with your name and/or race number.

Course Marking

The course will be marked with white arrows, and in some places with red and white hazard tape.

Hazards to be aware of

There are a number of steep descents on the course, with muddy, or loose rocky surfaces. This is not a race, please be cautious and keep your speed to a level you can safely control.

There are a number of public road crossings. You must give way to traffic on the road. Marshals will not be stopping traffic, and you must stop if they ask you to.

Finally please bear in mind that we do not have exclusive use of the forests, please respect any other forest users you may meet.

Marshals

Marshals will be present at several locations to help and advise riders. Mobile marshals will patrol the course, some motorised, some on mountain bikes. Please obey their instructions, especially at public road crossings.

In case of emergency

There is an emergency phone number printed on your number plate. It is reserved for emergencies only. If you are lost or hurt, or if you come across a rider who is hurt, please use it. The Order of Malta ambulance will be in attendance at the event.

Safety

Please read Safety Guidelines and Essential Equipment and make sure you are self sufficient on the day.

  1. Hi. Can I buy a license at sign on ? If so how much is it?

    • One day licence is included in the entry fee, just sign the Licence sheet and you’re good to go

  2. Hi,Was going to bring my son with me he races U16 on the road will he be 30 euro aswellto do this event.
